The Dancers, 2026

          The Dancers         Oil on canvas         72 inches by 36 inches (183 cm by 91 cm)         Completed on 30 May 2026         My nephew Jack and his friend Jenika, in a pose borrowed from Renoir's Dance paintings ( Dance         in the Country , to be specific), while the background is from Dance in the City . The statue in the         top corner is a Venus figure I found online. It's the first life-sized figure painting I've done since         The White Dress early last year, which you can see elsewhere on the site.

A Glass of Wine (2026)

     A Glass of Wine      Oil on Canvas       28 by 24 inches (71 by 61 centimetres)      Completed on 18 April 2026     I wanted to do some paintings with reds, and Jenika models them beautifully, including this burgundy velvet ball gown. Painting glass is always a challenge but I think I managed to do a decent job of it.

He generously agreed and now he's immortalized in oil paint as well                   as in music.

On The Balcony (2025)

        On The Balcony       Oil on canvas       48 by 24 inches (122 by 61 centimetres) My last completed canvas of 2025, and my latest attempt at a Manet-style portrait. (You'll also notice that I borrowed the railing from his own painting of the same title). Jenika returns from her earlier appearance in The Yellow Dress . I think the rose petals on the ground add a poignant touch, and the butterfly is pure whimsy.

Cliff at Pokeshaw (2025-26)

  Cliff at Pokeshaw Oil on canvas 16 by 20 inches (41 by 51 centimetres) My first completed canvas of 2026. I've been making a lot of copies of Monet seascapes lately, just for fun, and wanted to apply the same techniques to an original work. This scene is along the coast of the Acadian Peninsula in northern New Brunswick, during a drive we took out there last November. It was a cold, windy day, as attested by that poor, windblown little tree.

Posing in a sunny      straw hat last summer, I was going for a sort of Renoir approach in the portraiture, and bright colours      that matched the light.
